Organization

The idea of forming Abladei was born in 1986, during the (historic) turmoil within the, then Ga-Dangme Kpee (org.). In 1987, disillusioned and frustrated, about twenty members   left Ga-Dangme and formed Abladei U.S. Inc. Others later followed and joined. Subsequently, Abladei (US) Inc. was inaugurated on July 30,1988.

Abladei (meaning royalty) was adopted as the name for the Organization partly because it describes the behaviors and attitudes of our founding members beautifully; and because some members who come from the coastal towns of the (Ga-Dangme) Greater Accra Region     in Ghana, are from royal families (clan).

Mission Statement

Abladei (US) Inc. is a non-profit voluntary social organization.  Our mission and purpose is hoping to help the rank and file membership, with the social and economical aspects of our respective well-being.  We come together to mobilize and educate the younger generation and the community at large; in raising social, economical and cultural awareness of our Ghanaian heritage.

Activities

It is often said that "THE FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER."  This is reflected in our annual activities.  Besides our yearly Christmas parties and 4th of July cookouts; we also celebrate our Homowo festival, where traditional and festive foods are served, and cultural dances demonstrated.  In addition, we organize trips to Atlantic City and Niagara Falls.  However in comparison, our seasonal trips to DeWolfe's farm keeps us grounded and humble.

We continue to find ways to educate ourselves, our children and community on Ghanaian cultures and customary rites; such as, child naming ceremony, puberty rites as well as customs regarding traditional marriages, funeral rites and other festivals.

To empower families in practicing healthier lifestyles, we Organize health fairs to educate members and their families to know their health status in order to improve their quality of life.
